It’s custom for primary school children here in the Netherlands to hand out little classroom treats on their birthday. It’s a fun, yet for parents slightly overwhelming tradition — treats need to be fun and special, yummy but also healthy.

These apple cars tick all the boxes, and best of all — they’re extremely simple to make. Just stick toothpicks through apple parts (a bit of orange juice keeps the apples from browning) and add 4 grapes for the wheels. If your toothpicks are not inserted too high, the grapes will touch the ground and the cars will roll.
